How to Get Your Property Ready For Spring

Springtime is a time of new beginnings. Leaves sprout on formerly dormant trees. Flowers pop up out of the ground. Birds can be heard chirping among the trees and bushes in your neighborhood. After a dark and cold winter, Spring brings with it warmer weather, sunshine, and new life.

If you’re like most people, you didn’t spend much time outside during the winter checking your yard. But Springtime brings the kind of weather and temperatures whereas you find yourself getting your property back in shape for the summer to come.

It’s that time of the year when you should get your ladder out of the basement or garage and take a look at your gutters and downspouts. See if everything looks normal…or not. You might have to clear out some debris in order to let the water run freely again. Or you might need to tighten some screws that came loose over winter. While you’re “up there,” visually inspect your roof shingles and the area around your chimney to see if any repairs are needed.

Cracks can form thanks to winter weather and temperature changes. Therefore, check for cracks in your foundation as well as on patios and walkways. Now’s a good time to fill those cracks in before they get any bigger. Look for gaps between windows, too, and caulk them up.

If you’ve got a stack of wood near the house, Springtime is the right time to move that wood away from the house so the insects that it attracts won’t be so close to your place and try to find their way into places like your kitchen or bedroom.

It’s also a good time of the year to look over your air conditioning unit as well as outdoor lights and faucets. Do you notice any damage requiring repairs? Maybe it’s something as simple as changing a lightbulb, or something more expensive that requires someone to come over and do work. Finally, inspect the trees on your property.
